Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and fan theories about Pluribus. He is doing his best to avoid both.

“It's like being constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the writers are not listening by audience theories, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to throw out a good idea for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, one could always use the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
