Texas Attorney General Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the producers of acetaminophen, asserting the firms hid potential risks that the medication posed to pediatric cognitive development.

The lawsuit arrives four weeks after Donald Trump promoted an unsubstantiated connection between consuming Tylenol - also known as acetaminophen - while pregnant and autism spectrum disorder in children.

The attorney general is taking legal action against J&J, which previously sold the drug, the sole analgesic approved for pregnant women, and Kenvue, which currently produces it.

In a declaration, he claimed they "betrayed America by profiting off of discomfort and marketing drugs without regard for the risks."

The company asserts there is no credible evidence tying acetaminophen to autism.

"These corporations misled for generations, knowingly endangering numerous people to boost earnings," Paxton, a Republican, declared.

Kenvue stated officially that it was "very worried by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the reliability of paracetamol and the possible consequences that could have on the welfare of women and children in America."

On its official site, the company also mentioned it had "continuously evaluated the applicable studies and there is lacking reliable evidence that demonstrates a verified association between consuming acetaminophen and autism."

Organizations acting on behalf of physicians and health professionals agree.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has stated paracetamol - the primary component in acetaminophen - is a restricted selection for expectant mothers to treat discomfort and fever, which can create major wellness concerns if left untreated.

"In more than two decades of research on the consumption of acetaminophen in pregnancy, no reliable research has conclusively proven that the use of acetaminophen in any stage of pregnancy results in neurodevelopmental disorders in children," the organization said.

This legal action cites current declarations from the Trump administration in asserting the medication is potentially dangerous.

Last month, Trump raised alarms from health experts when he told expectant mothers to "struggle intensely" not to consume Tylenol when sick.

The US Food and Drug Administration then issued a notice that doctors should think about restricting the consumption of Tylenol, while also stating that "a direct connection" between the medication and autism in young ones has not been established.

Health Secretary Kennedy, who supervises the Food and Drug Administration, had pledged in April to undertake "comprehensive study program" that would establish the origin of autism spectrum disorder in a short period.

But authorities cautioned that finding a single cause of autism - considered by experts to be the result of a complex mix of genetic and environmental factors - would not be simple.

Autism is a type of permanent neurological difference and impairment that affects how individuals perceive and relate to the surroundings, and is identified using medical professional evaluations.

In his court filing, Paxton - aligned with the former president who is running for federal office - alleges Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson "intentionally overlooked and attempted to silence the research" around paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder.

The case seeks to make the companies "eliminate any promotional materials" that asserts acetaminophen is safe for women during pregnancy.

The Texas lawsuit parallels the concerns of a assembly of parents of minors with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who took legal action against the manufacturers of acetaminophen in recently.

A federal judge threw out the case, saying investigations from the family's specialists was inconclusive.
