The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
