The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
