Reports indicate that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

A Significant Comeback for the Franchise

The duo are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their roles will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, considering the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.

This signifies the sixth film in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a newly published work by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.

The film's narrative are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

The supporting roles feature several accomplished actors in important characters:

• Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
