The Actress Expresses Discussing Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer appropriate to voice opinions against the Trump government, fearing it could worsen divisive discussions and further divisions across the country.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says the Actress
In a recent interview, Lawrence shared, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, election after election, Hollywood stars do not make a difference whatsoever on voter decisions.”
She continued, “Why continue? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to heighten conflict tearing the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Lawrence has previously been open about supporting conservative and liberal presidential nominees throughout her life. Brought up by a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election before joining the left-leaning politics and stating she understood during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was undermining her own rights as a female citizen.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she remarked that a Trump victory could represent “a catastrophic event” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee, “since I believe she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will do whatever she can to safeguard reproductive rights.”
Celebrity Views
Lawrence was supported by numerous celebrities in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a returning figure, but the limited influence stars have over the voting intentions was underscored by the outcome.
“Another four years seems distinct,” commented the actress of his leadership. “Since he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for his first term. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
Latest Film
Lawrence is currently promoting the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she stars as a young mom who deals with her mental health in a remote area. Speaking at a press conference for the project in Venice, Lawrence spoke about the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s occurring is equivalent to a genocide and it’s awful.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by saying that she was saddened by “the lack of civility in the discourse of the political landscape right now and how that is going to be normalised to the children today. It’s going to be standard to them that elected officials deceive.”
The actor sought to redirect frustration about the issue to policymakers rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she advised, in what many took to be a nod to the recent commitment signed by numerous entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.
Relatable Experiences
Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her role in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in her latest project. Even though the director has rejected the plot being understood as one of post-birth struggles and psychosis, Lawrence shared that she connected with aspects of her character’s journey after the arrival of her youngest child, shortly after shooting ended.
“It was fear for my son,” she said, “envisioning every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a medication called that medicine and I used it for 14 days and it made a difference.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also spoke regarding the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the project while she was some months pregnant and unable to exercise.
“There’s a freedom,” she remarked, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
