Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family navigate their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
