A Heap of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season
The winter break present a wealth of pursuits far superior than checking the updates: opening presents, feasting on delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to not snapping at relatives. I hope you managed to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items came out during the festive period, and should you didn't see some of them, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Truly the biggest revelation, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop more episodes. Season 3 will return with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio renowned for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not yet been announced.
